CiviMail Template
Here's the CiviMail template I mentioned at the last meetup, refactored for maximum Gmail compatibility: https://github.com/FatherShawn/CiviMail-HTML-Template
Copy Primary Address to Billing Address for CiviContribute Forms - Now a Drupal module on the Github
Last week, Hershel Robinson, created a Drupal module for my client (called CiviCopyAddr) to handle the copying of the primary address into the Billing Address fields via a toggled checkbox. It's located at https://github.com/hershelsr/civicopyaddr . We use Authorize.net as the payment processor. To make it work:
1. Copy the files from the github into a directory call CiviCopyAddr and copy that directory into sites/all/modules and enable the module in Drupal.

Notes from September Meetup: Kyle Jaster on SimplyCivi
At September's meetup Kyle Jaster from Rayogram presented the newly released SimplyCivi Drupal theme, designed as a cleaner, more useful and user-friendly administration theme for CiviCRM. (Also check out Kyle's blog.) Below are notes from his presentation and information on how you can get and contribute to SimplyCivi.
- Rayogram worked to create CiviCRM implementations for each of 62 New York State Senate (NYSS) offices
- extensive use of CiviCase to track assistance to constituents
- much of the work on NYSS implementations went into CiviCRM 3.2 core, especially front end changes
- developed custom Drupal theme to wrap around CiviCRM; provides some extra features that work well with CiviCRM
- decided to rewrap admin theme from NYSS project and make it public on github - can either be git cloned or downloaded as tar.gz
- SimplyCivi theme is CiviCRM 3.2-dependent
- README.txt has all needed info for installation, should be relatively easy; block names correspond with theme region names for easy configuration
- works with CiviCRM Theme Drupal module
- left and righthand sidebar pop out from window sides, but main layout is single column - gives extra width to Civi
- Civi breadcrumbs and full-text search (different from built-in menu bar search, which is just for contacts) are prominent up top
- handy flyout menus from bottom bar - Create New and New Individual; Recent Items actually fly out too, though it's not quite finished yet
- Tabs have been moved into a sidebar, like Vertical Tabs - css broken out into contact-tabs.css, which can be copied into any other Civi theme to make tabs display in vertical sidebar
- messages.css and messages.js functionality also added
- this theme can be a good starting point for learning how to custom theme CiviCRM
- currently no actual CiviCRM template overrides
- SimplyCivi doesn't look good on mobile!
- Rayogram will continue developing and maintaining SimplyCivi theme; others are also welcome to contribute, which is fairly easy via github!
Consistent Meetup Pattern will Build Participation
I think that we should discuss and create a consistent pattern for our meetups. I would imagine that a consistent pattern would be easier for our gracious hosts. It would also build participation as those who attend could commit a regular block in both their mental and physical calendars.
I'm thinking something like the nth x-day of the month (preferred) or every n weeks.
I think we should come up with a proposal for a pattern and then ask Rayogram if that would work.

NYC CiviCRM Meetup - May 2010 is coming!

Scheduling next NYC CiviCRM meetup in May
Hey Everyone... April is turning out to be a bear for Rayogram and myself... so we'll be looking to schedule another meetup in May. I'll post as soon as we solidify a date. If any one would like to volunteer to present a 15 minute case study, please post a comment here!

Here's Alyssa's Notes from March's NYC CiviCRM Meetup
I didn't want her wonderful notes to get buried in a comment... so here are Alyssa's notes.

Improvements to out nascent group
So discussing this with Alice briefly before the meetup ended. Here are the highest priority edits that I think are needed to make the civi groups concept really take off especially for us.
1. The main body (left column) of the group home page should consist of two blocks. The top block should be a view showing the next meetup scheduled with a "more" link to see more upcoming events. The block below it should be the discussion listing as it currently is.
Reason: The next meetup should have top prominence on the group home page so people can comment and plan for the next meetup.
Civimail follow up from meetup today - interesting!!
So I get home from the meetup after presenting civimail features to one of the breakout groups and what do I find? This link from one of the drupal groups I'm suscribed to.
Case study for April meetup
I'm happy to present a the simple "members only" site that I recently created. It includes online membership sign up (using PayPal) and auto user access to members only content. (CiviCRM & Drupal). I'll keep my presentation to about 5 minutes. How's that sound?
Notes from the March Meetup
I posted some raw notes from the Meetup on the Palante Tech blog. I was especially excited to post notes on CiviMail - Peter dropped some major knowledge and blew my mind with the stuff that I never realized CiviMail can do!
Obviously only got notes from the breakout group I managed to sit in on, so other folks should post any notes they have from the groups they sat in on.
Great meetup, folks - good to see everyone!
NYC Meetup Code Sprint
So we're looking to do a quick (and hopefully easy) intro to templating code sprint. The idea will be to get everyone to pull a release of the 3.2 code (http://svn.civicrm.org/civicrm/branches/3.1.NYSS is the current 3.2 working directory for front-end code) and then we'll go in and change the accordions/fieldsets to a best practices version, such that we are able to have better control of the behavior and look of fieldsets/accordions throughout the site.
Next NYC CiviCRM Meetup - March 16th
CLICK HERE to sign up for the next meetup!
Any ideas for a case study or breakout? You can reply to Alice by email, or now that we have a group - post your idea here as a comment!
