I have been involved in the CiviCRM community for over 4 years, and enjoy implementing and programming CiviCRM for a variety of non-profits. I have been amazed at the rapid pace of innovation delivered with each new release, and CiviCRM's flexibility in being able to accommodate a variety of requirements. I have learned a lot about CiviCRM by participating in CiviCon, online forums, and CiviCRM book sprint.

I have been part of CiviCRM project from the beginning and feels great to see how it has grown over the years.
I am glad to be associated with such a wonderful open source project and an awesome community around it.

I've always been passionate about what non-profits and advocacy groups can achieve using technology. For me, CiviCRM shows an essential example of how non-profit and technology worlds can come together to provide real change - working as community, creating value for yourself, but also for others in non-profit sector.

We help many not for profits implement CiviCRM through consultancy, training, configuration and custom development. Many of them come from a painful world of old Access databases, multiple spreadsheets and even paper. It's really satisfying to
help people move on with a system that's so much in tune with their own ethics of sharing and collaboration. We also 'eat our own dog food' and use Civi in-house for our client records because we love the flexibility and control it gives us.
For us it's important to share code and advice with other members of the community when we can because we know we get it back in help at other times. The community really is awesome and one of the friendliest and undaunting I've come across. We appreciate the huge value of the software to us and our clients so we try to contribute back and make it even better.

AGH Strategies
CiviCRM allows our clients to have a robust tool for tracking and engaging their supporters that can grow with them. I began as an end user, and now I work with CiviCRM full-time.

End-user, Administrator, Implementor
Center for Media Justice
Civi has been an amazing tool for CMJ (and for other organizations I work with) to keep our most important data all in one place in a user friendly way.

Implementor
Community Builders Australia
CiviCRM enables us and our clients to invest precious funds into configuring the CRM to meet organisational needs, and building innovative new features, rather than paying annual license fees. With access to the source code and tight integration with leading website content management systems, CiviCRM is extremely flexible.

Progressive Technology Project
The organizations we work with are experiencing the benefits of a robust tool that is
easy to use, supports their work, and allows them to collect and track data from various parts of their organization, such as membership, fundraising, communications, and organizing into a centralized database. CiviCRM as an open-source solution also allows us to nurture and build a user community to share and create a common vision of future features that would be useful to the community organizing field. Just two years after our pilot project, we're currently supporting 30 community organizing groups to use CiviCRM, and the community is steadily growing.

CiviCRM provides a vital tool whereby nonprofits and other social projects can implement strong contact-relationship management capabilities without high monthly fees. It also provides the integration and customization capabilities necessary to make such software useful in the complex, lived reality of doing social engagement work. Plus it continues to build the open source toolset made available to the Commons and grow the common good.

ISHR
ISHR is currently in the early stages of implementing CiviCRM, and is finding the customisable aspects of the software to be especially beneficial.

So how about a demo from Father Shawn?
I'm referring to this thread on the forum:http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,12431.0.html
Perhaps for one of the breakout groups?
Also, my offer to demo setting up civimail to use a google account (either regular gmail or google apps gmail) still stands - nothing special there, but for someone brand new to civimail or looking for a free/cheap way to do the full civimail deal perhaps helpful...
Lastly, I'd like to discuss our new group and what short term improvements we'd like to see. I'd also like to discuss a strategy towards getting more live events like civicamps, code or documentation sprints, or even just "play days".
I Would be Excited to, but...
I would be excited to demo my module, but I just found out I have a conflict that's going to trump the MeetUp. I'll have to wait till next month. In the meantime, I've posted info about it on the wiki: CiviCRM Relate
a demo would be great too!
Hey Peter, you must have missed Father Shawn's demo - which was wonderful. We can do a break out if folks are interested. But your offer to do a demo would be great too. Let's hold that idea in case we get any offers for a case study - we do get lots of newbies. We can also ask the group if they'd like to see the demo as a large or small group. I would definitely like to see it.
Re: Father Shawn
I was referring to something Shawn was just working on this week (saw it on the civi forum).
Small group demos/breakout demos is also a good idea.
See you next week!
Guest?
By the way, I don't see "Guest" as a member of the NYC group, but that is how your comment is showing up. Is this perhaps another small issue with the new group functionality?
