After 2.5 weeks in India, the Polish team is happy (hmm...?) to report safe landing in Warsaw last Tuesday. :-) We spent the first two weeks in Mumbai, hanging out with our mates from the India team, and with Lobo. Before that, I had the opportunity to meet only some members of the team, during other travels. It was the first time, when (almost) the whole group was gathered in a single physical space. Sitting in one room with people who you've been talking to via IM or email for almost 3 years now, but most of whom you've never seen before makes you think about the balance between different kinds of wire-based communication and real life conversations. For me, the greatest value was always being able to meet people in person, see their face when chatting, breathe the same air - and after this trip I'm again assured I will never change my mind when it comes to this preference (even though I'm enthusiastic about Internet and it's communication potential!). It will definitely be interesting to see how this face to face meeting might change our communication in the future. I'm pretty optimistic, and can bet that online work conversations will get much easier now, when we know each other's faces and attitudes.
For the last few days, Piotr and I took off to the south of India, to a place called Mulki, near Mangalore. The goal was to take a little bit of rest and get ready for all the work waiting for both of us back home. I was expecting ocean and silence, but what I saw when we finally got there exceeded my expectations. The house we stayed in was like some Caribbean island torn out from Latin America and planted in India: ocean, coconut trees, beautiful weather and lots of hospitality from our hosts. We were initially planning to do some traveling around Karnataka, but at the end, decided to just enjoy the peace and excellent food.
