We've begun our planning for CiviCRM trainings and meetups for 2009 - and we'd love to get feedback from folks in the community about interests and availability for these events ...
We're considering three different types of events for the calendar:
- Advanced User Training - We held several 2-day sessions this year - focused on the skills needed to configure, customize and use CiviCRM advanced features. These sessions were well received - so we're planning on doing several more in 2009. Fees for these sessions are based on operating expenses.
- User Group Meetings - Half or full-day meetups where folks can share experiences and learnings, network, and discuss the future of the platform.
- Developer Camps - These 1 or 2 day sessions are "learn by doing" events where developers can work together with core team members on specific projects
Tentative schedule for the first half of 2009 is:
- March 3: Developer Camp - Washington D.C. - We're planning on attending Drupalcon 2009, and it would be cool to have a CiviCRM developer camp prior to the conference.
- March 6-7: Advanced User Training - East Coast (Washington D.C. or New York) - Since several of us are already planning on being on the East Coast, this is a good time to offer a training session. We could run it in New York or Washington D.C. depending on interest.
- April 24-25: Advanced User Training - San Francisco We can schedule a West Coast training session preceding the NTEN Conference in San Francisco if folks are interested.
- April 29: User Group Meeting - San Francisco - We'd like to hold a half or full-day meetup right after the NTEN Conference since we think a decent number of users will be in San Francisco at that time.
- Mid-June: User Group(s) and Training - Europe / UK - The core team is meeting in Warsaw Poland in late June - so this could be a good time to schedule one or several training sessions and / or user group meetings. Some of us could potentially participate in a UK User Group meeting - since there's already some great traction there. Running session(s) in Poland and/or Western Europe would also be cool (we'd need help with promotion and hosting for Western Europe).
If you're interested in being part of any of these sessions - and / or have suggestions about trainings and meetups - post your comments here.

Warsaw training
Hi,
Please keep us posted on the training in Warsaw or others in this region. I would be interested in attending.
Thanks!
I'd love to see come to a
I'd love to see come to a training session in DC. I'll keep my eye on the schedule. Thanks.
+1 NYC
Vote for NYC over DC
Are you planning to have Advanced User Training in Australia?
Hi,
Just wondering if you have any plans for arranging Advanced User Training sessions in Australia in near future or any other events?
Regards,
PC
No plans down under for 2009 as yet ..
However if you can get a group of 10 folks willing to pay for a training, we can make it happen
Interested in Washington DC events
I'm about 95% certain that I will be attending the DC drupalcon. I'm waiting on official approval from my employer, but I have no reason to believe I won't receive it. Pending that, I would be interested in both DC sessions.
I do not know how much I could contribute to the developer camp, because we are just in the baby stages of implementation, but if life stays true to typical nonprofit-sector work, I'll have to be an expert in about 4.3 days. Even if I couldn't contribute, I could listen and learn.
Confirmed.
I'm now confirmed for DC*DC. I would absolutely be interested in the training. The catch is that at some point, I've got to book my flights & hotel. Any idea when a decision will be made?

Brussels + 1
We can provide a venue and accommodation (depending on the size).
We can help promoting the event and I'd suggest organising a "social" event with NGOs & European political Parties (election time, so probably not the best time for the later).
So, let's make it ? mail me to discuss the details
Brussels is on a 2 hoursish distance from France, UK, Germany, Netherlands. Last but not the least, has the best beers in the world (first round is mine).
X+
Prefer DC over NYC
I would be interested in either training session. If you are going East, I would prefer DC over NYC personally. We are headquartered in DC, and its a much cheaper trip. :-)
Ever thought of Denver? Very central and affordable >:-)
DrupalCon
Count me in for a Developer Camp @ DrupalCon!
Any Online Options?
I'm in Tokyo. Are there any plans for online events or training?
Currently no plans for any online training ...
I suspect this will change in 2009/2010. However there are a set of tutorials available via screencasts

UK + extra event type
Hi there,
It would be great to get something set up in the UK in June/July and I'd be more than happy to help out with the organisation.
From my experiences in organising two CiviCRM meetings, there is another format type people find useful - a showcase where people see a demonstration of an already existing site, ask lots of "can it do this?" questions, meet real life developers and so on. A lot of the people that came to the CiviCRM user group in Manchester event fell into that category.
I'd be happy to get involved
I'd also be happy to help out with any events or training. There is an increasing amount of interest within the mainstream UK Voluntary sector which was evdenced by excellent attandance at our recent event in Manchester.
+ 1 for UK
Hi,
I'd vote for any training in the UK. We can help with the organisation. I'm currently organising an event in Birmingham, and would be in a position to set up a similar event there. Birmingham has very good communications and plenty of venues to use.

+1 for UK
Would be great to organise something in the UK. I can certainly help with promotion and hosting, although many people might prefer a London location as all rail connections lead there...
Michael is correct in that we also get a lot of "can it..?" type questions and maybe we should start working on some documentation for this kind of thing. I've been more concerned with the cases where the answer is 'not yet' recently but I'll try to put some thoughts into that for the next UK meet.
I think the real value of a trip like this would be to pass on some higher level skills to folks here who are likely to be developing around it or even providing training on to end users.
Another +1 for the UK
Likely to have two or three developers who would be interested in participating and learning
I would like to attend in SF
I am interested in both the April 24-25: Advanced User Training - San Francisco and the
April 29: User Group Meeting - San Francisco.
I build joomla sites and all the events seems to be drupal focused. :-(
Best Regards,
