Civi has been an amazing tool for CMJ (and for other organizations I work with) to keep our most important data all in one place in a user friendly way.

Being part of the CiviCRM community is really something to shout about! Not only is CiviCRM an amazing software package, its designed for organisations that make a difference in the world. We help non-profits across the UK gain control of their data through the power of CiviCRM.

It is without a doubt the best piece of software I've ever worked with, and I'm constantly discovering cool new features. More recently I've been working on CiviMobile as part of a project for my course at University. I'm really looking forward to seeing this being used by organisations across the globe.

CiviCRM is helping us serve member-based community organizing groups across the
U.S. to keep better track of their events, fundraising, and membership data. It's helping our community to aim higher in terms of what kind of questions they should be asking and what kind of data they should be collecting. We chose CiviCRM because it's the best all-around tool to do what our groups need, AND because it's open source.

I've always been passionate about what non-profits and advocacy groups can achieve using technology. For me, CiviCRM shows an essential example of how non-profit and technology worlds can come together to provide real change - working as community, creating value for yourself, but also for others in non-profit sector.

As non-profit consultants working for non-profit organizations, we found CiviCRM to be particularly well suited to answer the common needs of activist associations, charities and other medium-sized groups. Based in Montréal, we've helped local and international organizations migrate to CiviCRM to manage their memberships, events, communications and fundraising campaigns. We empower our clients and assist them when they need us.

CiviCRM provides a vital tool whereby nonprofits and other social projects can implement strong contact-relationship management capabilities without high monthly fees. It also provides the integration and customization capabilities necessary to make such software useful in the complex, lived reality of doing social engagement work. Plus it continues to build the open source toolset made available to the Commons and grow the common good.

City Bible Forum

City Bible Forum is an Australian not-for-profit Christian organisation. We need to communicate effectively with our constituents, and CiviCRM gives us a comprehensive set of tools for managing relationships. Interestingly, we often find that new features are being added just as our need for those features is becoming apparent. It's the right fit for us.

Make it Happen!

Community funding via Make-it-Happen and direct sponsorship is the key driver behind improving and adding features to CiviCRM. If your organization could benefit from any of the projects on this page, make a contribution and Make it Happen. If you're able to sponsor a feature at a level above $5,000 - please contact us (info at civicrm dot org) about alternative payment methods. You can also review the successful Make-it-Happen Campaigns for the 4.1 and 3.4/4.0 releases.

These features are up for sponsorship for the 4.2 release:

  • CiviMobile - CiviCRM for mobile devices
  • Batch Entry of Contributions and Membership Payments
  • Offer Donors a Choice of Payment Processors
  • CMS Agnostic Modules as CiviCRM Extensions
  • Multiple membership renewal reminders
  • Relative date filters for all search forms
  • UK Direct Debit

These features are fully funded for the 4.2 release:

  • Accounting Integration Improvements
    • CiviSMS - SMS blasts and interactions
    • Mass Dedupe and Merge - Batch merging for groups of duplicate contacts

    CiviMobile

CiviCRM for mobile devices. This includes iPhone, Android, iPad, Blackberry and more. This version will include the ability to view/search contacts and see most of the details of each contact. It will also have the ability to create/edit contacts, and handle event attendee check-in.

Batch Entry of Contributions and Membership Payments

Batch entry of gifts (checks, cash, etc.) is a much requested "missing feature" in CiviCRM. The goal is to provide a streamlined interface for data entry of batches of contributions and membership payments. A simple batching concept will be introduced to provide verification of count and totals. The feature will use a grid-style input form with the columns controlled by a selected profile.

Offer Donors a Choice of Payment Processors

This MIH adds the ability to offer a choice of available payment processors to donors using online contribution pages. Administrators will be able to select one OR MORE enabled processors when configuring each contribution page..

CMS Agnostic Modules as CiviCRM Extensions

This MIH will open up the existing CiviCRM extensions architecture to allow developers to build and distribute powerful CMS Agnostic modules. These modules can leverage the full power of Civi's hooks and API's to inject new forms, pages, fields, and more.

This improvement will also allow existing CMS-specific modules or components to be migrated to an extension that can be used regardless of the host CMS (as long as the module doesn't rely on CMS-specific functions). For example the extremely useful, but "Drupal-only" CiviEvent Discount module could be converted into an extension that could be used by a Joomla! or WordPress hosted CiviCRM site.

    Multiple membership renewal reminders

Administrators will be able to configure an unlimited number of reminders at specified dates relative to the membership expiration, and configure different message templates as needed for each reminder.

Relative date filters for all search forms

Allow users to enter relative date filters such as "Current year-to-date", "Current month-to-date", "Last year", etc. on all search forms. This will be particularly useful for "smart groups" (i.e. saved searches). Users will now be able to create a smart group for "people donating more than $500 this year to date" ... for example, without needing to periodically modify the smart group criteria.

    UK Direct Debit Integration

Direct debit integration will allow UK based non profits to connect to a UK based direct debit provider and process recurring direct debit payments.

Requirements and specification are being developed here:
    http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRM/Direct+Debit+integration+%28UK%29+requirements+and+specification

The specification will be finalised before work commences based on requirements expressed by contributors.  We can't guarantee to fulfill all requirements so please discuss any specific questions you have with us before adding requirements to the page and contributing to this MIH.

This MIH will by carried out by Eileen on behalf of CiviCRM LLC.

Please note that sponsorships for Make it Happen projects and contributions to the CiviCRM general development fund are not deductible as a charitable donation under United States law. Consult your tax advisor if you have questions about deductibility.

    Successful Campaigns

Accounting integration improvements and Quickbooks integration

This initiative is the first step towards enabling better integration of accounting concepts and systems with CiviCRM. It encompasses the implementation of a number of data changes to make further enhancements possible, as well as providing Quickbooks integration via IIF file export (and integration with other packages via CSV export).

    CiviSMS

Support for SMS blasts and interactions, targeting the following features:

    • Broadcast an SMS message with token support to a group of contacts via workflows similar to Send Email and CiviMail
    • Collect responses from the above message and associate it with the message and the sender
    • Validate and store the response as a survey answer
    • Integrate with multiple SMS gateways - ClickaTell, Twilio and Tropo

    Batch Dedupe and Merge

Have too many duplicate contacts (like CiviCRM.org)? Have no idea where to start the merge process? Then you need to support this MIH. The features include:

    • Batch merge a set of merge pairs using either Safe Merge or Aggressive Merge
      • Safe Merge - Merge only if no conflicts detected. Do not overwrite any data.
      • Aggressive Merge - No rules, just merge
    • A standalone script that merges all contacts in the DB, or merges contacts in specified group(s)
