Here it is, the third stable release of the incredible CIviCRM 4.5 series. This release includes some important fixes, and is recommended for everyone using CiviCRM 4.5.

» Issues fixed in 4.5.2

The LTS team is also putting out 4.4.8 today, which fixes for a regression in 4.4.7 which prevented deleted contacts from showing up in searches.

A word about release timing:

Our official release schedule is for the first and third Wednesdays of each month. But due to CiviCon craziness we put out 4.5.1 last Wednesday (an off week). So today's release gets us back on schedule with 4.5.2, and you can look forward to 4.5.3 on Wednesday the 5th.

The course resources for trainers on the Wiki have now been updated for CiviCRM 4.5.
This has been done as part of the Edale sprint taking place in the UK.

The courses can be found on the CiviCRM Wiki - wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRM/Training
The course is based on a modular format with 14 individual sessions and each session contains both trainer notes and exercises for the learners.

The modular nature of the course means this can be run in multiple formats, like a '2 day course' or a '1 day course focusing on fundraising'.
Instructions for the trainer have been provided along with training tips, suggested course timetables and printable trainer/learner notes.

The full course is slide free - the idea is that the trainer delivers the whole course on a live CiviCRM site. The...

If your organization uses the CiviCase component, we strongly recommend that you do NOT upgrade your site to the 4.5.0 release. We have been alerted to a bug in the upgrade process which may adversely affect custom data, smart groups, and / or report data for existing case types. A fix for this will be included in the next release (4.5.1) which will be available in early October. You can follow progress on the issue tracker.

If you've already upgraded to 4.5, you can use the following steps to check for and correct data issues:

  • Navigate to Administer > Custom Data and review the Used For and Type columns in the listing. If you have custom data sets Used for "Cases" AND where specific case types are referenced you'll need to check that these sets are still linked to the correct case types. If not, edit the Settings and modify the Used For type(s).
  • If you have Smart Groups that...

With CiviCRM 4.5 around the corner, it's time to talk about one of the great new features in this release: improved handling of non-English names and greetings!

This goes back quite a bit: I posted the original plan (as linked above) in July 2013. There was little feedback, so I concluded we are on the right track (nobody complained, so it must have been good! ;-) ), and implemented it over the course of that summer. At the unforgettable Dalesbrige sprint, I added some documentation; and the code was finally merged as the very first feature for CiviCRM 4.5! (The sprints are...
