From four+ systems to one
Sargent Shriver Center for Poverty Law
The Sargent Shriver National Center on Poverty Law is a leader in fighting poverty and advocating for low-income people across the U.S., through policy development, litigation, public education, information sharing, legal work, and media outreach. The Shriver Center's legacy systems included a aging plone CMS, Salsa Democracy in Action for ecommerce, Raiser's Edge for donor management, and using Microsoft Outlook for events management. Emphanos successfully migrated more than 1500 PDF publications and their metadata into a Drupal ecommerce platform and integrated access via custom CiviCRM modules for institutional users based on IP addresses. Added workflow enhancements for managing user accounts and tracking donations and combined all four+ systems into a single unified CiviCRM/Drupal system that now serves as a single database of record.
Tight integration points with Drupal. Rich feature set of CiviCRM's built in components.
Consolidating disparate information silos of site visitors, managing daily workflow through one integrated system.
Complex data migration requiring customizations to the ecommerce layer. Finding the right balance in intuitive workflow management which both saves staff labor and makes for a great user experience.
From the Emphanos side: Young-Jin Kim (project lead, data migration), Allen Shaw (custom development), Kevin Krupp (project management, selenium testing and training). From the Shriver Center side: Tim Fluhr (Technology Systems Manager)
"The Shriver Center has been working closely with Emphanos as its exclusive Drupal and CiviCRM consulting firm since 2010. During this time, Emphanos has worked closely with our technical, operations, and editorial staff on a myriad of projects including a redesign of our website, http://povertylaw.org, a data migration project that included moving 20 years of online journal issues and articles including all the metadata from Plone CMS to Drupal, a migration of donor data from Raiser’s Edge to CiviCRM, and custom module and theme development in Drupal. Emphanos has played a crucial role in the Shriver Center’s move to Drupal/CiviCRM. Countless design decisions, custom modules, workflow mappings, and technical trainings provided by Emphanos and its staff have helped make our Drupal/CiviCRM implementation a success. Without their depth of experience and knowledge, and their patience and flexibility with our staff and timelines we would never have been able to transition to Drupal and CiviCRM as easily and effectively as we have."
Tim Fluhr, Technology Systems Manager
Why did this project use CiviCRM?
CiviCRM was chosen because it works remarkably well with Drupal, which was their chosen CMS.
