A monthly update for contributors to CiviCRM

Enter the CiviCRM Marketing team

Ever wanted to contribute to CviCRM but didn't know how? Well, we're simplifying the process and making it easier for you to get involved. Our first step: the CiviCRM marketing team. If marketing is somewhere that you can help out, then check out Josh Gowan's post. Else stay tuned for more news about teams, working groups and other ways in which you can get involved.

Back to the future - a 'new' developer mailing list

To facilitate discussion amongst our ever growing community of developers, we've decided to revive the civicrm-dev mailing list. The list was hibernated a few years ago during the heyday of the forum. Now that we've moved to Stack Exchange for Q+A, we thought it made sense to bring it back to life for more open ended developer discussions that aren't suited to the Q+A format. Check out the civicrm-dev info page for more information on appropriate topics for the list, and to sign up.

Google Summer of Code 2016

We've just sent our submission to Google to participate in GSOC for the third year in a row (thanks, Xavier Dutoit). We'll find out if we have been successful by the end of the month. In the meantime, why not take a look at our wiki page? If you have a project to add, do so now. If you are interested in mentoring a student, sign up on the page. And if you know a student or university, reach out to them and explain how awesome CiviCRM is, and why they should apply.

CiviDay is almost upon us

Are you off to CiviDay? Know anyone that should be going along but isn't signed up yet? Help us make this the biggest and best CiviDay ever by emailing, tweeting, instgraming or otherwise contacting your friends. Hashtag #cividay!

Extension to automate config of CiviCRM entities

Check out this new extension by Erik Hommel that creates or updates Activity Types, Contact Types, Custom Groups with Custom Fields, Event Types, Groups, Membership Types, Option Groups with Option Values, Relationship Types and Tags from JSON files.

CiviCRM now packaged on Debian

Thanks to sustained efforts by Dmitry Smirnov (http://raid6.com.au) CiviCRM is now available as a Debian package. Check out the CiviCRM page on the official debian tracker.

Map: CiviCRM sites around the world

Thanks to Nicolas Ganivet at CiviDesk, we now have a map that shows the number of CiviCRM sites around the world. Perhaps predictabley, we're doing best in North America, Europe and Australaisia, but we also have good representation in South America, and a decent presence in Asia and Africa. Statistics and graphics are powerful ways to tell the CiviCRM story. If you are interested in helping out, contact Nicolas and he can get you started.
