An integrated training and events management solution for Health workers and Academics in South London
South London Health Innovation and Education Cluster
The South London Health Innovation and Education Cluster (HIEC) is an umbrella organisation, which brings together professionals working in healthcare education and delivery across South London. Four areas of excellence were chosen as the initial focus for the South London HIEC; dementia and diabetes from south east London, infection prevention and control and stroke from south west London. Our role is to identify new and innovative ways of working from across our partners. We want to make sure these are diffused as fast and as widely as possible to support the Quality, Improvement, Productivity and Prevention (QIPP) agenda and aid service change. The system provided a website (Drupal) as a focal point for the organisation with CiviCRM providing the contact management and event management features. This was integrated with Moodle (for e-learning) and Mahara (e-portfolio). Events are organisated throughout the cluster area, and Health professionals can enrol on the events and also on e-learning courses - all directly, and automatically, through the website.
Background
To provide an integrated, single system, to provide educational courses and events to the Healthcase professional within the cluster area.
Challenges
Ensuring we understood CiviCRM well enough to be able to use it as the integration 'hub'. This was our second of these kind of projects, and we had already learned a lot about it before embarking on this project.
Solution
Others including Sugar had been evaluated on a previous project, so we were confident at this point that CiviCRM could do the job and we were able to reuse much of the learning and some of the code.
