How CiviCRM Helped Strengthen Our Individual Giving

Mile High Youth Corps

The Mile High Youth Corps (MHYC) located in Denver, Colorado, helps young people make a difference in the community and their own lives through service opportunities focused on conservation. MHYC wanted to use CiviCRM to help manage and increase their donations and organize their annual fundraising event. CiviCRM has been instrumental in reaching this goal by helping them develop their donors database. They used the database to track all of their 2015 donation information, identify a list of top donors and then create personalized outreach methods. Another goal was to gather additional information about their donors (such as their connection to MHYC or how they first learned of the organization) and store this data in CiviCRM in order to better target future appeals.

Background

MHYC wanted to strengthen individual giving with better use of database tools such as segmenting contacts and creating targeted communication. Time was spent working on cleaning data and organizing their existing groups and tags in order to make better use of these key features. Having a stronger donor base will ultimately further their mission of empowering youth to make their community a better place.

Challenges

The main challenge was the time it took to clean up the contacts and data that had not been updated or created correctly in the first place.

Solution

CiviCRM offered every tool that MHYC was seeking with the main purpose of strengthening individual giving. But in addition to that, there was a need to streamline and facilitate annual fundraising events and appeals which was accomplished through online donation pages, integrated websites and effectively sorted data to help with personalized outreach.

Functionality

MHYC needed to gather additional information about their donors (such as their connection to MHYC or how they first learned of the organization) and store this data in CiviCRM in order to better target future appeals. This can be done with CiviCRM by creating a robust online donation page. To further achieve this goal of more personalized outreach with their donors, cleaning data and organizing their existing groups and tags has helped make better use of those features and allowed for better tracking of past donations.
