Nonprofits make CiviCRM what it is, literally

As part of the release notes for each new version, I compile a list of the people who have contributed code or reviewed changes that go into the release.  As you might expect, many of the familiar names from the CiviCRM partners list are there.

However, a sizable number of nonprofits, big and small, write and edit significant amounts of code, adding features and resolving bugs.  Now that CiviCRM 5.0 has been released, I wanted to take the time to thank all of the nonprofit organizations who have contributed code to the 4.7 series:

You may have read the recent announcement of CiviCRM 5.0 and its revolutionary new method of numbering CiviCRM releases.

Meanwhile, those who prefer greater stability can use the Long-Term Support (LTS) releases of CiviCRM.  LTS users won't be left behind in the version numbering progress, however.

v5.0: The littlest biggest increment

During this coming April, you may notice something peculiar on the civicrm.org download page -- instead of 4.7.32, you'll see a jump up to 5.0.0. Does this mean that CiviCRM is finally implementing a personal voice-assistant to take-down Amazon Echo? Nope. Maybe it means open-season on changes, granting a general license to break backward-compatibility? Nope. 5.0 is boring. It's basically the same thing as 4.7. It's just a big number with a little change.

New CiviCRM Extension - Collapse Comms and Demographics

On many occasions, clients have mentioned that the contact summary screen loses a lot of prime space to the communication preferences and demographics sections.

“Is there no way to collapse them by default like you can with custom data? They are rarely used but are needed”

They’re aware that demographics and communication preferences can be removed via the UI (/civicrm/admin/setting/preferences/display?reset=1)

This is a simple extension that collapses both the communication preferences and demographics sections by default on the summary page.

With the funding environment for nonprofits in Serbia becoming increasingly more fragmented and the choice of technology tools to aid fundraising and advocacy becoming more diverse, Catalyst Balkans saw an opportunity to fill an open niche for a localized CRM targeted to the nonprofit sector in the Western Balkans. With Catalyst Balkans already having used CiviCRM for several years for its own communication and contact management needs, the localization of CiviCRM was a natural choice.
