As part of the ongoing website upgrade, the CiviCRM extension directory has received a few upgrades. More precisely, we changed a few configurations and workflows on the page listing CiviCRM extensions and how new releases (extension updates) are regularly added to that directory.

Starting with the interface changes on the directory, we adjusted the filters to remove some redundancies:

Back in September 2019, we had announced a plan to upgrade the content management system (CMS) running the civicrm.org website, as well as plans to make civicrm.org available in many languages. Today I'm happy to announce that we have reached a major milestone: most of the static content, user logins, blogs and many CiviCRM forms are now being served from Drupal8.

Corona Crisis: Use CiviCRM to organise neighbourly help in your community

We live in challenging times, and we should now help each other more then ever - especially when on lockdown.

We created a CiviCRM extension to coordinate help for the vulnerable and most affected members of your neighbourhood, community, town or county. It provides two simple public forms, where people can sign up either to request or offer help. These forms then create CiviCRM contacts with the help requests/offers stored in custom fields.

Introducing CiviCRM the movie!

In october 2019 I spend a few days with the community at the Summit in Barcelona, and it was inspiring as usual! On the way back out of all the things we discussed two themes kept going around in my head. The first was the need for more marketing material that was felt by all present, and the second one was that in my opinion CiviCRM = software + community.

A few weeks back we rolled out a recommended redesign for the CiviCRM logo. We opted to tackle this in anticipation of rebranding the new CiviCRM website, which we’re in the process of transitioning to D8. We made one minor change by adopting Varela Round as the base font for the logo. The new logo, below, will begin rolling out throughout CiviCRM over the coming weeks. You can find it as well as more assets online in our Gitlab space here.

CiviCRM Marketing Team: Time To Get Organized for 2017

The marketing of CiviCRM benefits from a large number of individuals that work to promote CiviCRM in their own way. At the same time though, CiviCRM’s marketing efforts tend to move in spurts, often without clear direction or cohesion. Whether it be through running an event, creating some collateral, or hosting a CiviCRM 101 Webinar, there are a number of opportunities to market CiviCRM, and each effort sometimes takes a different approach in doing so.

In late 2009, we were looking for a better solution for one of our larger faith-based clients. The AMS and CRMs we investigated were either too expensive or too simplistic.  We had taken a hard look at CiviCRM about a year earlier, but we didn’t think it was ready.  However, with the release of CiviCRM 3.1, CiviCRM was more mature and gave us the flexibility and Drupal integration we needed.  CiviCRM was ready and so were we.

About a year ago, IMBA's membership team noticed many of our members were renewing after their expiry date, and often after the "Lapsed" or grace period of two months we have in place. To help accelerate these renewals, our membership team decided to offer a "members only special"—a t-shirt normally reserved for $100 and up memberships for a lower membership fee of $50—if the member renewed as an "Early Bird" i.e. before their expiry date.

CiviCon is back in ColoradoCiviCRM sprints are a tremendous opportunity to get involved with the community while supporting the project. But, they can be a bit off-putting for non-developers because there is often a perception that they’re geared towards writing code. There are always opportunities for non-developers to get involved with CiviCRM, and this year’s post-CiviCon Colorado sprint is no different.

A renewed step for growth in international markets

Compared to other open source projects like Drupal, WordPress and Joomla, CiviCRM is quite small and unassuming. It’s powered by a dedicated community that serves an important need; providing world-class software for nonprofits, non-governmental organizations and for civic sector organizations. Though CiviCRM is used around the world, the Core Team would like to see the total number of active sites grow substantially, thereby improving our capacity to grow not only the project’s base of contributors and supporters, but to increase the overall impact that the software can have.

It is therefore no wonders that it is being used by an increasing number of membership-based small businesses such as martial arts clubs, yoga instructors (cf. Yoga for the People), gaming clubs and ... beauty salons!

In case you haven’t noticed, we don’t spend a ton of time on marketing and sales. Not only is our budget for marketing small (and by 'small', I mean 'tiny'), just take a quick look at the makeup of the Core Team and at our roadmap and you should get a good sense of what our focus is (and is not). Like most things CiviCRM, we rely on our community to help spread the word about the project and the benefits of using the software.
