Teams and working groups are the building blocks of the CiviCRM community.
At the top level, the CiviCRM community is organized into three teams covering broad areas of responsibility, all coordinated by a Core Team. Each team is made up of a number of working groups focused on specific tasks. Find out more about our teams and working groups, including their aims and objectives, and how you can get involved, below.
Teams provide a high level, easy to understand structure to our work. They also match fairly well to the different interests and skills of people that want to get involved. Teams are made up of a number of working groups that are focused on specific goals.
Well defined working groups keep us organized and focused on specific objectives. Working groups are largely self determining and there are no rules on the internal structure, etc. To ensure they remain effective and accountable, we've created a limited set of requirements. Each working group should:
As long as the above is covered, everything else is down to the working group.
Working groups may last indefinitely, looking after tasks as they arise (like the security working group) or they may exist to fulfill specific objectives and can be disbanded when those objectives are met. If you'd like to create a new working group to push something forward that we're currently neglecting, the we'd love to hear from you. Please suggest your new working group in the working group chat room.
The Core Team is responsible for coordinating the project teams and various working groups such that the community as a whole can push CiviCRM forward. Active in various working groups, the Core Team is responsible for critical project tasks such as release management, security and the project roadmap, and supports important community intiatives such as events, documentation and more.
In addition, the Core Team oversees all legal and financial obligations for the project on behalf of CiviCRM LLC, the legal entity behind the project. The Core Team and the project itself are supported by community contributions and financial support from member organizations, expert providers, events and more. If you're interested in finding out more about how the core team works see the Core Team page.
