Users of the [CiviCRM Extended Security Releases (ESR)](https://civicrm.org/esr) do not need to upgrade, as there are no ESR-specific bugfixes or security issues at the moment.
### What's new in CiviCRM 5.22
This version changes the database schema, has changes to the API, as well as the usual bugfixes and minor feature improvements.
* MySQL 8 is now fully supported and tested.
* APIv4: Many improvements (country and state-province entities now supported, improvements to getfields and getoptions, checkbox/multiselect fixes).
* CSV export improvements for non-latin characters, makes it easier to open in Excel.
* CiviContribute: payment processor errors should provide more relevant feedback, when possible.
* Many minor improvements and bugfixes in all components (case, event, contribute), as well as minor improvements to the WordPress and Drupal integration.
* A lot of code cleanup, refactoring and test improvements.
Note for Drupal8 users: CiviCRM 5.23 will officially remove the old Views integration that was part of core and which was deprecated in favour of the CiviCRM Entity module. You may want to make sure that the old core views module is disabled before upgrading to 5.23. [Read more](https://github.com/civicrm/civicrm-drupal-8/pull/35)
