If you've never been to a CiviCRM Sprint before, you might like to know it's far from "all work and no play."

For example:

The CiviCon 2025 Sprint is going to the Internet Archive!

Operating since 1996, the Internet Archive is the non-profit organiation that maintains The Wayback Machine as a historical library of websites, along with other related projects to preserve digital cultural artifacts.

More than just a fun novelty for peeking into the past (like this snapshot of the BBC in 1996), this digital library is a valuable resource for research and preservation of human culture and knowledge, including:

  • 835 billion web pages
  • 44 million books and texts
  • 15 million audio recordings (including 255,000 live concerts)
  • 10.6 million videos (including 2.6 million Television News programs)
  • 1 million software programs
  • ... and more.

In short, their mission is "to provide Universal Access to All Knowledge".

Internet Archive site tour at the CiviCon 2025 Sprint

It turns out that the Internet Archive's headquarters is in San Francisco, and we've arranged to visit the site for dinner and a tour of the facility, as a kick-off for the CiviCon 2025 Sprint.

Here's what to expect:

  • Directly following the completion of CiviCon proceedings on May 22, Sprint participants will board a chartered bus to the Internet Archive headquarters in San Francisco.
  • We'll take in a guided tour of the facility, with a focus on the history and mission of the Internet Archive and on the work of growing and maintaining both its mission and its infrastructure.
  • We'll enjoy a catered dinenr on-site.
  • After dinner, we'll re-board the bus for travel to the Sprint venue at the Point Montara Lighthouse Hostel.

Why we're excited

The Internet Archive is an active and valued non-profit organization. They're dedicated to protecting broad access to information and cultural assets that are at risk of disappearing completely.

We're excited for the chance to learn more about their work and their continued effort to build relationships with others in support of their mission.

If you haven't yet registered for the Sprint, you might want to do that soon – space is limited!
