Developer training
Join us for a two day CiviCRM developer training on the 9th and 10th October (straight after CiviCON UK). The course covers everything you need to know to get up and running as a CiviCRM developer, and more. The training is delivered by CiviCRM experts from the UK, Europe, and further afield. At its core is a set of sessions that cover everything you need to get your development environment up and running, and to start writing extensions and improving core. As well as this, we're running a set of master classes on the latest techniques and technologies by subject matter experts.
The training costs £500, which includes food and accommodation while you are here. It is run alongside our residential sprint so there'll be plenty of chances to chat with and learn from other developers, implementers and power users from the CiviCRM community. You're also welcome to stay on for the remainder of the sprint at no extra cost to continue learning about and contributing to CiviCRM. We'll announce a full course outline and trainer biographies shortly. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please contact Parvez Saleh.

Residential sprint
Our annual residential sprint is your chance to dig deeper into CiviCRM and help push the project forward in the company of others that are doing the same. Sprints are friendly and welcoming events that provide an opportunity for you to get to know the rest of the CiviCRM community and contribute back to the project at the same time. They are ideal for working on your pet project, learning about the latest developments in CiviCRM and building up your CiviCRM network.
This year’s sprint will be held in Duvale Priory, Bampton, Tiverton EX16 9EG, over 6 days from 7th to the 12th October (leaving the morning of the 13th). We recommend attending the full sprint but you're welcome to come for a shorter time if you prefer (3 days is probably the shortest amount of time you would want to come for). We charge a fixed price of £250 for the sprint that keeps the event sustainable and covers all your costs while you are here. The longer you stay, the better the value - if you attend the full 6 days, it works out as £42 per day for accommodation and food!
Sprint attendees typically work in small groups on projects of mutual interest. Examples of areas we've worked on in previous sprints include:
- creating, reviewing and publishing extensions
- performance and usability improvements to core code
- improving marketing materials
- increased test framework and coverage
- documenting new features
- fixing bugs you have encountered
- improving CiviCRM infrastructure (e.g. the extensions directory).
If you are wondering whether the sprint is for you, feel free to contact Olly (olivergibson@northbridgedigital.co.uk) and Michael (michaelmcandrew@thirdsectordesign.org) before you register and we can talk about your interests and how we can cater for them at the sprint. Otherwise, we'll be in touch once you've registered to talk through what you want to get out of the event.
And if in case you needed more convincing, sprint attendees will be able to attend master classes from the developer training (though they won't be able to attend the core sessions - if you'd like to attend those, please sign up for the training).
