Last weekend Rupam Jaiswal, our CiviCRM team developer from India got married. A few of us from the team had gone for the wedding. It was great to see the transition from a developer whose days revolved around putting together code, into a bride who was now busy getting things together for the big day. She looked resplendent in her traditional Indian outfit. We traveled for 2 days to reach her place, the venue for the wedding. In spite of being a remote town in Uttar Pradesh (India), the place was surprisingly very well developed. The thermal power plant in the area had to do with having such a huge township built around there. We were in for a surprise as Indian weddings are generally an all vegetarian affair and few of us were hardcore non-veg fans. We decided to take control of things and explore the town side on our own. We managed to get to a local dhaba and fill in the missing link – A feast on some spicy and delicious chicken curry with traditional tandoor rotis. Now was time for us to take the much needed nap in the afternoon, as part of the mission was accomplished. North Indian marriages are all night affairs and held well past midnight. As the night neared, her house was completely lit up and looked like darkness disappeared to brighten up most important day for her. The wedding reception started at around 10 in the night. Meanwhile we could not wait any longer and decided to have some of the tasty snacks / food the was laid out to meet our hunger. There was some good music, which kept our feet moving and we made sure she also grooved on the tunes. The religious ceremonies continued till late in the night. It was great pleasure to be a witness to one of the most important days in her life. It was also refreshing break for us to move away from civilization and stay away from our terminals. From the entire CiviCRM team, we wish Rupam lots of happiness and prosperity in her life ...
