The day CiviMobile team rolled out its international CiviMobile localization project is long gone. The project is running full blast, gathering pace with every new release of CiviMobile and with every new account of its further international outreach.

Reaching new users and higher goals

CiviMobile app has crossed the bridge to targeted nonprofit organizations worldwide and is now available for English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Dutch, Hungarian, Ukrainian and Polish users. Built to leverage the benefits of charity CRM software and smartphones, the mobile app keeps evolving. Every time new features are developed to replicate and empower CiviCRM functionality, while users get more freedom and possibilities when doing fieldwork. Meantime, as new lines of text are added regularly the demands on the app localization project broaden.

Localization process streamlined

To keep our localization project on a par with growing needs of CiviMobile community and in tune with the app evolvement, the decision was made to adopt a cloud-based solution and engage CiviMobile users, supporters and enthusiasts as translators into the process. All the while CiviMobile team develop new features, improvements and handles updates, translators receive new lines of text in real time.

How It Works

To make your contribution to the localization project as a translator follow these steps:

Step 1

Go to https://agiliway.crowdin.com/civimobile and create a free account or sign up using your social media profiles, GitHub, or GitLab profiles. When completed you’ll be redirected to the project page displaying a list of all the project languages with a mention of progress in translation, number of words not yet translated and all users collaborating on the project.

Switch to the Messages tab in the upper-right corner to hold the project-related groupchat. Should you have assigned tasks, you’ll receive notifications.

Step 2

Select the required language project to access files for translation. In case your target language is missing from the suggested scope of language projects, please send us a request to info@civimobile.org and we’ll create the specific language project.

Once you checked the progress of translation displayed next to en.json file, click the file to translate the missing bits.

Step 3

Translation is done in the Online Editor. Its interface is highly intuitive which makes for fast working process and great user experience.

Find the list of strings for translation in the left section. These could be separate words, expressions or sentences in English as the source language. Upon click, the source string appears in the middle top area with the context clue and maximum length of the translation limit. If available, previous translations pop up in the middle-bottom area. Use the right sidebar to discuss translation-related questions with other users.

Step 4

Click save and repeat for all en.json files.

Get involved to make CiviMobile multilingual faster. If you are looking for effective ways of making a difference in your community, this could be a nice New Year’s resolution.

Thank you so much for support. We appreciate your contribution and wish you a wonderful year ahead.
