Have you ever wanted to start a local CiviCRM user group? Or introduce CiviCRM to more local nonprofits? NetSquared might be able to help you kickstart a meetup through a co-hosted event.

I'm Eli, the Community Manager for NetSquared, a global volunteer-run network of nonprofit technology meetups. Our group leaders are currently holding events in 50 cities (across 20 countries) and they have venues and relationships with local nonprofits. But what they don't have is access to is experts who can come in and lead a presentation or workshop introducing these tech-minded nonprofiteers to the tools they can help solve their problems.

That's where you come in! I'd love to connect CiviCRM Ambassadors to my NetSquared local organizers. They can handle all the logistics of holding an event and you get to play the expert. :-)

What do you think? Does this sound like a fit for the CiviCRM community?? If there's a NetSquared group in your city and you'd like an introduction let me know.

What is NetSquared?

We're a group of volunteers that hold monthly live events using meetup.com. Our goal is to bridge the (nonprofit) digital divide - we believe that the NGO sector should have access to the best digital tools and have the necessary skills to use them so that they can change the world and accomplish their missions. Every month each of our 50 groups (in 20 countries) hold free or low-cost training events and workshops for local nonprofits and civil society organizations.

NetSquared is a loosely organized, opt-in network. Which means I can't make any promises, but NetSquared organizers are usually very eager to find partners who are willing to share their expertise with the nonprofit community.

We're probably already in your community. Check out our map of chapters to find your closest location.

What could a collaboration look like?

NetSquared organizers hold monthly events, so they already have venues and active memberships of nonprofit staffers interested in using technology. What they don't have is an expert. That's where you come in!

I see several different ways we could work together:

  • Invite local nonprofits to your local CiviCRM office hours or user group meeting
  • Collaborate on hosting an "Intro to CiviCRM" event for local nonprofits
  • Some third cool idea you come up with!

What's in it you you?

  • Collaborating with a NetSquared organizer makes planning an event easy because they've already got a venue and a community of people who attend regular meetups
  • If you want to talk CiviCRM with local NGOs and nonprofits then NetSquared groups have access to engaged members who are technically inclined

What's in it for NetSquared?

  • We need experts! Coming up with an event idea every month is hard, so we're eager to tap the expertise of guest speakers
  • We're always keen to expand our reach to other allied groups working on technology for social good

What do you think? Are you game? If there's a NetSquared group in your city and you'd like an introduction let me know.
