Welcome to the December core team update - special holiday edition. There's lots of goodies under the tree and we can't wait for you to open them.

What we've been working on:

The core team is transitioning to a monthly task cycle where we'll publicly set a goal for the month, work on it and report back to the community afterwards. To bring you up to speed on our goals and accomplishments over the past few months:

  • Mosaico Integration
This drag-n-drop email composer has received a good deal of polish and the now-available extension gives Civimail an interface that rivals other paid email services, with all the power and flexibility of CiviCRM behind it, making CiviCRM not only the most powerful communication tool for nonprofits, but now easy and fun to use as well.
  • CiviCase UI Overhaul
This beautiful drop-in replacement to the old CiviCase UI makes managing cases far easier and more powerful. Look for an extension release announcement in the next few weeks.
  • Api Version 4
This extension is shaping up nicely and developers will soon be able to leverage the powerful new api functionality to make better extensions and integrations with CIviCRM.
  • Infrastructure Upgrades
CiviCRM minimum requirements have been updated to require at least PHP 5.4 (soon to be 5.5), with 7.0 as the recommended version. We have upgraded our unit-testing infrastructure to match and developers are now free to use short array syntax and other modern php goodies.

What's Next:

  • Drupal 8 Integration
We'll put time toward getting a stable release of CiviCRM on Drupal 8.
  • WordPress Installation
We'll be making a handful of improvements to allow easier WordPress installation, with an aim toward wordpress.org distribution.
  • Relax dependencies for Mosaico
A community-funded project will loosen the dependencies for Mosaico, making Shoreditch an optional improvement to the appearance.
  • GitLab
We'll be continuing the migration of some of our issue tracking and documentation systems from Jira and Confluence to lab.civicrm.org.
