For 2025, the CiviCRM-D7 integration will continue to receive basic support, but usage is discouraged. Specifically:

  • Yes, we will continue to run basic, automatic tests.
  • Yes, we will continue to welcome bug-reports and patches.
  • Yes, we will continue to release in tandem with other CMS's.
  • No, it will not be a focus area for manual testing.
  • No, we won't take heroic measures to ensure full and equal support of all functionality.
  • No, we don't expect it to last forever.
  • No, we don't know the exact end-date.

We will re-assess D7 circa Nov/Dec 2025 to see if continued support (1) serves a sufficient market and (2) is consistent with our organizational values.

Special note for those staying on some form of D7, i.e. “never ending support”;  we strongly recommend that you use CiviCRM ESR (https://civicrm.org/esr) or that you work with a partner that uses both D7 and ESR.

With respect to ESR, the support is the same as stated above, however you’re getting a longer runway with fewer updates. And, because ESR is a subscription service, you are likely to have more Core Team oversight of the integration.

Likewise, we recommend using a partner because they are very focused on stability (it’s why they offer ESR in the first place), and, in all likelihood, they’re already supporting several clients on D7 and ESR and are therefore likely to see any issues before they deploy any updates.
