Advocating public health made easy with CiviCRM
Upstream Public Health
Upstream Public Health, a public health advocacy non-profit based in Portland, Oregon, uses CiviCRM and Drupal to expand their web presence from a simple, infrequently updated HTML webpage (featuring a Paypal donation button plus Constant Contant newsletter signup) to a full-featured online web solution with integrated donations, mailing lists, event registration, and content management. Project by staff and Korlon LLC. For more information see the video.
Background
To create a website the staff could edit, and add news items to. The site would would process online donations, online registrations, and enable the staff to write and send their own bulk mail without paying an additional monthly fee for bulk mail.
Challenges
Design took a long time because it was a consensus design. As a result the project took longer than expected and the software was already configured and installed by the time the Drupal theme was created.
Solution
SugarCRM was evaluated but was deemed to be not feature-rich enough to work. Also, CiviCRM open-source "own the code" and "run it on your own server" capabilities were desirable.
Functionality
Online donations, content management, and homepage "news" views.
