Three new extensions were approved this week for in-app installation, thanks to the generosity of extension developers and the hard work of volunteer reviewers.

The CiviCRM Extensions Directory is already filled with over 300 available extensions, many of which have passed the community review process and are thus available for in-app installation.

Take a look at the goodies that await you:

With generous support from the community funding our first Form Builder Make-it-happen campaign, Tim Otten & Coleman Watts have begun regular code sprints for phase 1 of the Form Builder project. The extension is evolving rapidly, but I wanted to take a break from development for a few minutes to update you on what we've accomplished so far and where we go from here.

civicrm_engage is dead, long live civicrm_engage!

Long, long ago, before we had indoor plumbing, penicillin or `civix generate:module`, a humble drupal module was born.

It tried its best to be helpful by employing an (at the time) cutting edge technique known as CRM_Utils_Migrate_Import to dump a motley collection of custom fields, profiles and options into your CiviCRM database.

Along with other cutting edge techniques (such as lobotomies), the process of automatically adding custom fields, profiles and options has been improved and now can be done with managed entities and our lovely api.

I have just published a new extension Former Communication Data.

The extension simply saves emailaddresses, phone numbers and address details in a separate tab on the contact summary when they are deleted as you can see in the attached screen print.

A better way of creating office templates for CiviCRM

How can we find a user-friendly way of creating templates for serial letters and other mass communication? Is it possible to integrate CiviCRM with open-source online applications to facilitate the creation of office templates for our users?

This has been bothering us for some time, because many of our users find it hard to set up and work with templates in HTML format. So we started a proof of concept to check possible options… and we found an answer!

Continuous Extension Integration

What?

CiviCRM core now offers a Continuous Integration service to partner & member organisations on their extensions. The service will run the unit tests associated with an extension whenever a PR is submitted to that extension. This is similar to the process that runs on core and is driven by jenkins and runs on the same test infrastructure. There are free services that do this (e.g Travis) on github in general but they don’t provide the CiviCRM setup and database environment that is needed to run tests on CiviCRM.

More Tracking of Exports

CiviCRM does not natively log whenever an export of contacts occurs. This can be problematic for organisations with compliance and auditing obligations. In response to this The Australian Greens have developed an Extension which creates a log file for each CiviCRM domain in the ConfigAndLog directory and logs every time a CiviCRM user performs an export from within CiviCRM. The current log format is as follows:

Display CiviCRM forms on any web site anywhere

Powerbase (the Progressive Technology Project's hosted CiviCRM program) provides a Drupal site for your CiviCRM database, but, even though it's in Drupal, you can't use it for your web site. Your web site must be hosted elsewhere. This approach is becoming increasingly popular as organizations move from Drupal, Wordpress and Joomla to new web site platforms, or simply don't want their web site vulnerabilities to lead to a compromise of their database.

Tadpole has been working with [Andrei Mondoc](https://github.com/mecachisenros/), the developer of CFC, to extend the availability of processors to support memberships. Since memberships typically use Price Sets, this work also allows for Donations that use Price Sets and Line Items within a contribution page.

  • Do you want to restrict registration to certain events to logged in members only but still have other events open to the public? If the answer to the above question is yes, then this extension is for you. This extension allows you to set a flag to any event so registration is restricted to those that have a current membership.

Give your users customised automated tours of civicrm

The Civi Summit was a great event - full of lots of nice surprises. One that stands out for me was that what started out as some wishful thinking - namely having the ability to provide on-page tours/tutorials - ended up with us being able to beta test a 'proof of concept' before we left.

While some amongst us (ahem) were sampling the whiskey and fine IPAs late in the evening along to the strumming of the musically-able folk, others remained focussed on their laptops - and in Coleman's case this meant getting us a working prototype of a tour/tutorial system for civi pages.

One of the most requested features in CiviCRM over the years has been to tweak the Contact Summary page. That's the main Contact view, the "heart" of CiviCRM. And now, thanks to 12 donors contributing a total of $12,860.00 in the past month, we've almost reached our goal. Extension development is underway and beta testers have been wowed with the power and ease of designing their own Contact Summary layout with only a few clicks. Some key features of the extension:

Using CiviCRM form processor extension to handle form submissions from an external website

In this blog post I want to show how you could use the new form processor extension to handle form submissions from an external website.

My (imaginary) organisation provides buddies for young people and the form on our website is submitted when somebody is interested in becoming a buddy for a teenager. We ask for the name, address, e-mail, telephone number, birth date and gender.
