If you travel to DC for work or family frequently you may be tired of doing the same old tourism and want to mix things up. In anticipation of the User Summit, we've compiled a list of a few things to do that aren't on the Mall, that are inexpensive, and are Metro accessible. So while the Mall and Smithsonians are treasures in DC, there is a lot more to do here. Here are some other ideas from a couple locals:

1. Union Market – within walking distance of the conference hotel is Union Market, a historic market that has been recently revitalized. You'll find some great food options (this blog writer is a fan of the grilled cheese from Red Apron) from small local businesses, a pop up Angelika movie theatre, and some cool events.

2. A quick ride on the Metro will take you to the home of the Nationals in Southeast DC. The Nationals are in town for the entire week of the User Summit so you'll have many chances to catch them play two different local rivals – the Orioles and the Phillies.

3. Not interested in baseball but want to see a different side of DC? Near the stadium you'll find Yards Park, where you can go kayaking, catch a free concert, go to a local brewpub, or enjoy one of DC's waterfronts.

4. Being the nation's capital, there are embassies sprinkled throughout DC. Many are grand buildings, and some of the more scenic embassies are located on Massachusetts Avenue NW, just west of Dupont Circle. If you're interested in a three-mile walk from Dupont Circle that can take you all the way to the Naval Observatory (where Vice President Biden lives), you'll see forty different embassies on your way. Plus you'll get to experience just a bit of Rock Creek Park, which you will walk over en route.

5. Take the metro to Foggy Bottom (Blue/Orange/Silver) and take a short walk to the Kennedy Center. Every night the Kennedy Center offers a free concert at 6:00 PM. After the concert, you can take a walk to Georgetown or take in the scenery and activity at the Georgetown Waterfront.

We can't wait to host you here!
