Just a quick blog to let everyone know that barring any new security issues arising we expect 4.4.11 to go out on 17 Dec. At this stage the most notable fixes in it concern logging and processing IPNs for paypal express.

Should you wish to help with testing grab a copy from http://dist.civicrm.org/by-date/

(it will be in code freeze from 10 Dec)

From now on I will maintaing release schedule information on the WIKI - here http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRM/LTS+release+schedule

Is there anything that can be said about the end of life date of LTS? Is there any page that informs us about your policies regarding this? Like when a release version goes EOL?

I think we can say that 4.4 will be supported as an LTS for at least another 6 months - but 4.2 got extended well beyond our expectations due to Giant Rabbit stepping up

Does these 6 months have any relation with the release date of 4.6? And what would be the next LTS version? 4.5 or 4.6? Important questions when you start a new civicrm project, that you want to last.

Hey there,

Not quite answering your question but my 2p. if you want your CiviCRM project to last, it is as (if not more) important to think about making your upgrade path as easy as possible (as fewer customisations as possible, budget for upgrade issues, etc.) since a CiviCRM installation that lasts is going to have to do a few upgrades. To put it another way,  LTS isn't designed to elimate the need for upgrades - just make them less frequent.

Another related question. The first Drupal 8 module, would that be for 4.6 or still for 4.5?

Torrance got CiviCRM working with Drupal 8 during the google summer of code ... but that was against Drupal 8 Alpha - but it's not working at the moment due to drupal 8 changing since then. There is a blog - Pete was hoping to get some sponsorship towards it...

So still unsure which will be the new LTS branch?

I guess for Drupal 8 compatibility we'll have to wait at least until its release version, right?

So, 4.6 will be an LTS after 4.4.

Re Drupal 8 - it's not clear what version it will go into - as it may be require very little changes outside the drupal folder - in which case it will likely be backported to 4.6 even if it's not in there originally. (& possibly earlier versions but less likely).

The Drupal 8 integration that was working against drupal 8 Alpha was actually 4.4

NB - if you have any resources you can offer towards Drupal 8 integration let us know!

Thanks for your response, Eileen. Very helpful. As soon as we are ready for Drupal 8 (when their RC comes out), we will make an attempt to use what is there and when possible we would contribute patches.
