Would you like to help shape decision-making in the CiviCRM community and bring forward the issues that matter to you? Consider running for the CiviCRM Community Council.
The Community Council was established in 2020 to give different parts of the community a voice in decision-making and conflict resolution, and to make it easy to connect with experienced community members and the CiviCRM core team. The Council includes CiviCRM users, partners, implementation consultants, and ambassadors.
The original plan was to re-elect half of the Council each year. However, the coronavirus pandemic disrupted this rhythm. In the last full election in 2023, there were just enough candidates to fill the available seats, so all candidates were elected without a vote. We’d really like to change that this time by encouraging more people to run and holding a real election.
Personally, I would like to continue my involvement in the Community Council - and most current members feel the same way. At the same time, it’s important to us to welcome new candidates and fresh perspectives.
The time commitment is manageable:
- One 1-hour video call per month
- Ongoing discussion in a private Mattermost channel
- Occasional small work assignments
- Average total commitment: just over 2 hours per month
The work is interesting and rewarding. The Community Council plays a real role in shaping how community concerns are surfaced, discussed, and resolved across the CiviCRM ecosystem. It also broadens your perspective on issues currently shaping the CiviCRM world and gives you a chance to advocate for topics that are important to you and your community.
A call for candidates will be announced in a few weeks. Please consider whether this might be a good fit for you. If you have questions in the meantime, feel free to contact me or any other Council member, or email communitycouncil@civicrm.org.
