CiviCRM 2 and PHP 5.2

There is an effort underway among the leading PHP projects to push for PHP 5 adoption at GoPHP5.org. As folks in the community know we made this decision a few months ago to support only PHP5.2 and greater in our 2.0 release (scheduled for later this year). We also made the decision to support MySQL 5.0 and greater only in CiviCRM 2.0 Its great to see all major projects agree on this which in turn will compel hosting providers to also support PHP 5.2 and greater. Integration with Sunlight API's ..

Kieran Lal recently mentioned on the civicrm-dev list that he was interested in integration with the SunLightLabs API integration. This has been on my list for some time and I decided to take a peek at the API and while doing so decided to take a quick hack at integrating the API in CiviCRM trunk.

CiviCRM Profile Improvements for 1.8

In addition to many new features in CiviCRM v1.8, we have worked on few improvements for CiviCRM Profile.

1. We have added functionality which allows people to create User Account in Drupal using CiviCRM profile. So this way, user can create customized User Registration pages without using default Drupal User Registration form.

2. Another interesting feature for profile is Option to Generate Email Notifications when a profile is created or edited.

De-dupe Rules: Lengths, Weights, Thresholds, Oh My!

The new de-dupe functionality, introduced in CiviCRM 1.8, is configurable under Administer CiviCRM → Duplicate Contact Rules. This post describes the meaning of the fields and the way their contents impact the de-dupe search engine.

The first decision to make after going to Administer CiviCRM → Duplicate Contact Rules is which rule to edit. For CiviCRM 1.8 we decided to allow one rule per every contact type (individual, organization and household); in future versions this can be extended to arbitrary list of rules.

CiviCRM 1.8 Release Schedule

UPDATED: July 24th (slipped beta by a few days and final by a week) Here is a tentative release schedule for v1.8. As in any software project, these dates are tentative and subject to delays. However, based on past history they should be pretty close. Check out the 1.8 Release Roadmap for a summary of features and improvements. We'll be looking for lots of volunteers to start pounding on the Alpha Sandbox next week - announcement to follow shortly.

CiviCRM hits historic milestones in commits and issues ...

Earlier today we saw our 10,000 th commit :) For the curious, michal mach was responsible for this commit and the changeset is here (yes, i agree quite a disappointing 10,000th commit). For the curious, the changeset for the very first commit is here. This comes out to an average of approx 10.5 commits for every day (or approx 15 commits if u ignore weekends and holidays).
