Every new install of CiviCRM starts out fresh and clean, with only the built-in data fields. However, as every organisation has its own data needs, we often find ourselves adding more and more custom fields to this. This can easily start to clutter your contact views. An important way to avoid this and manage your custom data fields is to create relevant contact subtypes and assigning your custom data fields to those subtypes.

A Quick Update
I find it delightful that my first blog post in the new year is to share with you the near completion of business requirements for CiviHR Recruitment. For the story so far, please catch up here.

eWay is an australian payment processor that provides a seamless connection with many banks and allows for recurring payments, token payments etc.
CiviCRM has had a one off payments processor for eWay for a long time, but has lacked one for recurring payments and now it is finally here!

When developing with CiviCRM, one often prepares a development-build on your workstation which includes several git repositories, e.g.
We've marked a new release of civix. Notable changes/improvements:
If it’s taking too long, there is a faster way…
As I was getting ready to print our labels for this year’s Christmas cards, I first needed to add the address for about 80 of our clients in our CiviCRM. Piece of cake, right? Yes, if you take advantage of the Batch Update via Profile. Unfortunately, I was unaware of this feature, so this simple task took me a whole day to complete.
My first project with CiviCRM goes back to 2006, when I had to deploy a solution to track and report the activities of 25 volunteer activity centers. It ran a beta version of CiviCRM 1.7. It was rather basic, the implementation had a lot of custom code, but it worked. There were a few issues, however, and one of them was that the French translation was incomplete.
To celebrate (is that the right word?!) CiviDay here in London we are planning a full CiviDay marathon! Starting with a Coworking day, kindly being hosted by Gamesys, then followed by the January Meetup and onto a nice warm friendly pub.
