The fourth (and probably final) 2.1 Beta distribution is now available for download on SourceForge. If you are planning on using new 2.1 features AND / OR upgrading an existing site to 2.1 - NOW is the time to test the upgrade with YOUR DATA and identify any remaining issues with new or existing features. The development team will actively work with you resolve any upgrade issues during this phase of the release cycle. If you are unable to test the release by downloading it - then the next best thing is to try out the new features, bug fixes, as well as the workflows you use most often by logging in to the public demo.

Generally I think that the CiviCRM community works together in a very positive way. Whether on the forums, IRC or during the precious (but a bit too rare) occasions that we gather in the flesh - folks seem to treat each other with respect and patience. However, as the community grows - it seems like it would be useful to follow the lead of several other successful open source communities and adopt a "Code of Conduct" which we can refer to and use to help maintain a supportive and collaborative atmosphere.

The team has rolled a second 2.1 Alpha distribution with lots of fixes and improvements based on feedback from our heroic alpha testers out there, and our ongoing internal QA blast. We've gone through verification of almost 800 issue-tracker items - with each team member verifying a set of issues in an area where they did NOT do the coding. This process has turned up quite a few edge case issues - and the release is definitely getting more solid every day! Alpha 2 is available for download, AND to try out on our sandbox site. We want to make sure that the upgrade to 2.1 is as painless and error-free as possible. This can only happen if YOU test the upgrade process against a copy of your 2.0 data.

Joe Murray forwarded this announcement to me - and I'm posting it here in case any CiviCRM folks in Seattle might be interested in doing a 5 minute talk on how they use CiviContribute for fundraising. (Even if you're not up for speaking, probably an interesting session to attend if you're in the Seattle area)... Call for speakers on online/tech enabled fundraising. I co-host Seattle Net Tuesday and our September event is focused on utilizing technology for fundraising. We're looking for a couple of people who experimented with online fundraising within their

The 2.1 release hits code freeze this week - and we're really excited about all the cool new features and improvements. For folks who haven't been following progress on the release with "baited breath" - some highlights: Joomla 1.5 and Drupal 6 compatibility Contribution Pledges (back-office and self-service) Multi-language / single site support (with thanks to Google Summer of Code and the Joomla team)

I'm excited to report that a pretty full-featured 'phase 1' set of Pledge functionality is well on it's way to being completed and will be a part of the 2.1 release. This will fill in a significant hole in the overall CiviCRM feature-set. Phase 1 will include the following functionality: Record pledges received from contributors. This includes pledges for a one-time gift and pledges with regular payments spread out over a period of time. Send pledge acknowledgments with payment schedules. Generate payment schedules for multi-payment pledges.

Following on Lobo's recent blog post about missing features in CiviCRM - we decided to take a closer look at what it would take to get basic "Pledge" functionality added to CiviContribute (and then evaluate how soon we could take that "leap").

Thanks to the folks who expressed interest in attending a CiviCRM Boot Camp in Philadelphia this summer. Unfortunately we didn't get a sufficient number of signups to justify the expense of running the session (given that we'd be covering airfare, housing expenses etc.) - so we are forced to cancel the session.
