We're very pleased to announce the schedule for the first CiviLive online event on June 25th, which is about how CiviCRM is being used in response to the Covid-19 crisis.
Since April 2020, the first elected CiviCRM Community Council is a fact and I am proud to be a part of it! We have had our first two digital meetings across a few continents. The first meeting was basically just getting to know each other and have an initial chat about what we think our role should be. And accepting that we are never going to make everyone happy, do whatever everyone thinks the Council should do and meet the diverse expectations across the community.
As part of the ongoing website upgrade, the CiviCRM extension directory has received a few upgrades. More precisely, we changed a few configurations and workflows on the page listing CiviCRM extensions and how new releases (extension updates) are regularly added to that directory.
Starting with the interface changes on the directory, we adjusted the filters to remove some redundancies:
The transition of civicrm.org to Drupal 8 continues and, in the process, we’re taking time to clean up aspects of the site including revising its content and navigation, and reducing technical debt. One particular area that we’ve spent a great deal of time on involves the listing and recognition of both CiviCRM partners and contributors. Here are a few issues that touch on this process for you if you need some ‘light’ reading this weekend (in no particular order):
CiviCRM once had a list of ambassadors that provided a reference point for new potential users of CiviCRM, answering questions about the software, the community and how to get started. At a certain point, this went away and was never revised or replaced. We’re rekindling this idea now, albeit with a slightly different focus and in a different format.
In late January, the CiviCRM Core Team published its 2019 annual report which laid out its objectives for 2020. While we’ve managed the occasional update somewhat randomly in the past, we’d like to stick to a cadence of quarterly updates going forward in order to communicate progress on our priorities. This update provides an overview of the first quarter of 2020 as well as reflects on what we see happening for the remainder of the year.
Let’s start with priorities that we cited where we’ve made some headway.
Back in September 2019, we had announced a plan to upgrade the content management system (CMS) running the civicrm.org website, as well as plans to make civicrm.org available in many languages. Today I'm happy to announce that we have reached a major milestone: most of the static content, user logins, blogs and many CiviCRM forms are now being served from Drupal8.

The Council comprises 11 seats. Normally each council member will serve for 2 years but since this is the first annual election, half will serve for 1 year.
